House Bill 690, passed by the 87th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2021, addedÌý, requiring the State Board of Education (SBOE) to coordinate with the Texas School Safety Center to develop training on school safety for school board trustees. In November 2021, the SBOE adopted the new school safety training. The training was first made available on Â鶹ֱ²¥ Learn in February 2022.Ìý
Trustees must meet the school safety training requirement by taking the SBOE-approved training every two years. Newly elected trustees who did not complete the training prior to their election have 120 days from the date of their election or appointment to complete the training. Current trustees who have not yet completed the training have until September 30, 2022, to complete the training.Ìý
The new online school safety training is available on Â鶹ֱ²¥ Learn at this link:Ìý
Trustees who complete the training receive a certificate of completion from Â鶹ֱ²¥ Learn. School districts must maintain verification of completion of the school safety training for each of their trustees.Ìý
